Feng Shui

Feng Shui literally means wind and water.  Feng Shui has been around for approximately 3,000 years, but is fairly new to Westerners.  It is the ancient Chinese art and science of creating a balanced and harmonious environment.

Feng Shui and Your Home

Even if you've never heard of feng shui, chances are you've noticed it. Whenever you walk into a home and want to sit down and stay awhile, that home has good feng shui or energy. The opposite is also true when you walk into a home and immediately want to leave, that home has bad feng shui. All feng shui in a home can be corrected without making any structural changes to a home.

   Tips for Home Buyers

  • When touring a home, find out all you can about its past owners. For instance, did they move to a bigger, better home; were they foreclosed upon; was there a death or illness; or was there a divorce. A home carries the energy of the previous owners and that energy will affect the new owners, either positive or negative. However, negative energy can be cleared with a feng shui blessing.

   Tips for Home Sellers

  • When selling a home, the mundane aspects need to first be considered, which include a good Realtor, a home in excellent condition and a price that is competitive for the market. Some feng shui aspects include placing items and colors based on the bagua (see below) to help the flow of energy in the home.

The Bagua

The Bagua is an octagon-shaped "map" placed over a home or business to determine where the following nine life areas are located: wealth, fame/reputation, marriage, family, health, creativity/children, knowledge/wisdom, career and helpful people/travel. Each area has a color and element associated with it. The combination of all these on the main level of a home or office promotes positive energy.
